Goal 4

Goal 4: Continue to promote/provide public service to the Commonwealth, the region, the nation and the world through outreach initiatives.

Objective 4.1: Identify and partner with local and regional corporations, communities, businesses and school districts to promote educational opportunities and economic prosperity.

Examples:

  • Increase the scope and number of workforce development initiatives (non-credit offerings to meet workforce needs locally).
  • Review, analyze and develop a plan for greater success of professional services to the region’s communities and agencies.
  • Create a plan to increase activity and collaboration between the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research and corporations and foundations.
  • Establish/support Professional Development Schools.
  • Increase and promote partnerships with Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
  • Continue to offer SEEK (Summer Educational Enrichment for Kids), Upward Bound, the Mon Valley Performing Arts Academy and Science Olympiad.
  • Advance partnerships with BotsIQ and FIRST® Robotics.
  • Increase efforts in career services and internships through the Career and Professional Development Center and the Internship Center.

Success Criteria / Expected Outcomes by 2020:

  • Implement the plan for greater success of professional services to the region, communities and agencies.

Objective 4.2: Create and implement programs to cultivate reciprocal relationships between the University and students, alumni, families, corporations, and regional and national foundations.

  • Cal U for Life.
  • Recognition events for alumni, staff, students and friends of the University.
  • Family Day and Homecoming.
  • Nationwide alumni events.

Success Criteria / Expected Outcomes by 2020:

  • Increased alumni participation in all University interactions.
