Objective 5.1: Develop a comprehensive plan for student life programming to integrate with academic experiences.


  • Implement a comprehensive assessment of all programming in student life.
  • Improve accessibility and expand student life programming for commuter students, part-time students, undergraduates and graduate students.
  • Operate an NCAA Division II athletics program.
  • Increase programming for active-duty military and veteran students.

Success Criteria / Expected Outcomes by 2020:

  • Complete and analyze a comprehensive assessment of student life programming.
  • Increase integration of academics and student life experiences.
  • Have California University’s athletic programs compete successfully in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
  • Be recognized by active-duty and veteran students as an excellent learning community.
Objective 5.2: Enhance and integrate programs in leadership, career preparedness, civic engagement and other critical life skills.


  • American Democracy Project.
  • Serene Leadership Institute.
  • Curricula infused with service learning.
  • Office of Civic Engagement.

Success Criteria / Expected Outcomes by 2020:

  • Expand opportunities for civic engagement and service learning as measured in OrgSync.
  • Continue support for the Office of Civic Engagement.
Objective 5.3: Ensure the safety and security of all members of the campus community.


  • Disseminate California University’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Enhance and implement appropriate security protocols and programs.
  • Provide training on security protocols and communicate with frontline personnel (including events).
  • Create physical awareness (posters, fliers, etc.) of security protocols.

Success Criteria / Expected Outcomes by 2020:

  • Continue to uphold our University’s bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Update emergency operating procedures.
  • Complete campus-wide emergency training annually.
