7 Habits of Highly Effective People Classroom Registration

Cal U is pleased to provide students, faculty and staff with the opportunity to learn the principles outlined by author Stephen R. Covey in his influential book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." This renowned leadership development program is valued at more than $2,000 and available at no cost to Cal U students, faculty and staff. It is designed to develop leadership skills and will challenge the way you look at the world. It will help you build personal and interpersonal effectiveness.

By living the 7 Habits, you can: take control of your life; improve relationships with your friends, family and co-workers; make smarter decisions; define your values and what matters most to you; learn to schedule your priorities instead of prioritizing your schedule; increase your self-confidence; and find balance in your life.

7 Habits Overview (click here to expand)

7 Habits Overview

The first three habits are called the Private Victories. They begin with you, and allow you to work on your character, motives, and paradigms (beliefs).

Habit 1: Be Proactive

The Habit of Personal Choice
"Learn to take responsibility for your life."

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind

The Habit of Personal Leadership
"Define your mission and goals in life."

Habit 3: Put First Things First

The Habit of Personal Management
"Prioritize and do the most important things first."

The next three habits make up the Public Victories. As we practice these habits, we become better equipped to build effective relationships.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win

The Habit of Interpersonal Leadership
"Acquire an everyone-can-win attitude."

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood

The Habit of Empathic Communication
"Listen to people sincerely. Empathize."

Habit 6: Synergize

The Habit of Creative Cooperation
"Work together to achieve more."

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw

The Habit of Renewal
"Regular renewal in the four human dimensions (physical, mental, spiritual and social/emotional) helps us maintain balance and provides for continuous improvement."

All workshops are held on the Main Campus in Eberly 115.

No, the workshops are free of charge for all students, faculty and staff at Cal U.

2.  Do I have to attend every session under my workshop?
Attendance at every session of your workshop is mandatory to receive a Certificate of Completion.  Please check directly with the workshop facilitator(s) regarding absences.  It is up to the facilitator(s) and the participant to discuss and decide these matters.  Facilitator(s) have the final decision on your workshop status.

3.  Where are the workshops conducted?
The workshops generally take place in Eberly Hall in the 115 Conference Room.  If a different location is necessary, notice will be given accordingly in the reminder email sent to you one week prior to your workshop.

4.  What materials are needed?
A workbook will be provided for each workshop participant.  You are asked to bring writing utensils.

5.  What about breaks and meals?
Food is not provided for the internal workshops.  For all-day workshops and weekend workshops, a lunch break will be given to participants or you can bring your own lunch and beverage along with you.  For shorter half-day workshop sessions, the facilitator will usually schedule short breaks for participants.

6.  What if I have to cancel?
Kindly send your cancellation notice to Character Education x5038 or charactered@calu.edu as soon as possible.  If you have another workshop in mind, please indicate your new choice and you will be rescheduled into another workshop.  There is no need to register again on the website, as it will create a double record under your name.

7.  How will this workshop help me prepare for the job market?
Along with valuable personal training, it can benefit you professionally with regard to your activity transcripts and resume when completion has been verified.
