The Student Support Services (SSS) program is one of the three original TRIO programs authorized in 1968 by the Higher Education Act of 1965. The goal of SSS is to improve the retention and graduation rate of low-income, first-generation college students and students with disabilities..

Can You Benefit from Student Support Services?

Student Support Services (SSS) is a federal program that helps students whose educational and economic backgrounds make completion of a degree program especially difficult. The program benefits low-income and first- generation students, as well as students with disabilities.

Students receive the support they need to make a successful transition to college life. SSS provides counseling, tutoring, cultural activities and instruction to assist them in overcoming difficulties they may experience as a result of class, social and cultural barriers to higher education.

The SSS program is funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act 1965 and the federal TRIO Program. Cal U is one of more than 700 colleges and universities nationwide participating in TRIO.
