Customized Job Training Grant

Through the Customized Job Training (CJT) grant, you can receive funding assistance for the training programs we offer at Cal U's Southpointe Center. These grants and the working relationships we develop with companies, economic development agencies and organizations support Cal U's role and identity as a leader in the region's workforce/economic development.

The Cal U Pittsburgh Workforce Development Team has partnered with the following economic development agencies to help deliver CJT grants:

Grant Process

CJT grants are related directly to economic development. Like the WEDnet grant, the funding behind Customized Job Training grants is provided through the DCED.

The CJT grant development is a process that involves the coordination and development of the following components with company representatives. The process involves but is not limited to the following:

  • Identification of training needs
  • Assessment of skill levels
  • Design, development and deployment of training solutions
  • Determination of company's eligibility
  • Determination of employee eligibility
  • Development of memorandum of agreement
  • Submission of application forms
  • Articulating the portions of the training that is basic WEDnet vs. Customized Job Training
  • Implementation of WEDnet management information system
  • Uploading files to Harrisburg
  • Monitoring training
  • Invoicing
  • Payments

Note: The gathering of this information in not exclusively under the control of the University and therefore considerable effort must be given to driving the project forward in order to meet deadlines. There is considerable demand for the grant funds. DCED Harrisburg and GAT asks that these grant applications be processed ASAP.

Given what we can control, the following has been developed to make the process as customer-friendly as possible:

  • A uniform grant application that is easily recognizable by the DCED
  • A user-friendly guide for grant submission
  • Training grids that walk the companies through the process
  • Training model prototypes that address the timely deployment of training and training cost for customers
  • Automated forms that calculate detail budgets for Cal U accounting
  • A reporting system that updates grants accounting
  • A system for submitting GAT grants that is indexed
