Biography

Yamba was born in Old Tafo, Ghana, where he attended a Roman Catholic elementary school. He attended Navrongo Secondary School (High School), where he served as the sports captain in his senior years, playing soccer and field hockey and running track. He coached at Yendi Secondary School (High School) before pursuing dual degrees at the University of Ghana. He taught high school English from 1977-1979, then won a graduate teaching assistantship to Ohio University, where he also completed a dual program in international affairs and political science with a certificate in public administration. He earned his Ph.D. in public policy research and analysis at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. He also earned a post-graduate certificate in teaching undergraduate data analysis at Ohio State University.

Yamba is affiliated with the Frederick Douglass Institute. He coordinates the Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) and the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Essay Competition.
