In addition to being an instructor at Cal. U, Richard Mullen is also an adjunct professor at Point Park University, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the Criminal Justice and Intelligence Studies Department. He also is an instructor at the Allegheny County Police Training Academy.
Mr. Mullen is a lieutenant with the Allegheny County Police Department. He is currently assigned as a district commander at Pittsburgh International Airport, where he oversees police operations, including patrol, EOD technicians, EOD K-9 teams, and narcotics interdiction. Mr. Mullen has served as both a detective and a supervisor in the Allegheny County Police Sex Assault and Child Abuse Unit. He established the Allegheny County Child Abduction Response Team and developed and implemented a compliance verification system for registered sex offenders in Allegheny County.
He is a member of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Medical/ Legal Advisory Board on Child Abuse and the Pennsylvania Child Justice Act Task Force. Mr. Mullen has served on the U.S. Attorney’s Crimes Against Children Task Force for the Western Region of Pennsylvania, as a member of the advisory board of the Allegheny County Sexual Assault Response Team (SARTAC), and the Allegheny County Victim Services Policy Board. He is also a former board member for Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, a rape crisis center in Allegheny County.
Mr. Mullen was recently recognized as one of the top fifty "Irish-America Law & Order Leaders of 2014" by the Irish Echo newspaper in New York City.
