Research Interests

Dr. Morris-Rutledge is interested in studying teacher attitudes and perceptions of English Language Learners (ELL), in mainstreaming ELL students, and in professional and curriculum development in ELL student issues.

In the Classroom

Dr. Morris-Rutledge tries to build awareness through language immersion empahty exercises, so that students become aware of what it is like to not understand the language of instruction. She also tries to incorporate current articles, stories, personal experiences to engage and extend her students' understanding and desire to learn more.

I really like meeting the students and helping them raise their self-awareness about ELL students! I especially appreciate and enjoy my students' "a-ha!" moments, because then I know my instruction has somehow impacted them.
