Master of Science: Athletic Training
California University of Pennsylvania has a long history of providing entry level and advanced athletic training education. Our post-professional graduate athletic training education program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (caATe), is an advanced degree (post-certification) program in athletic training.
The Cal U program has been accredited since 1994 through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), a professional membership association for certified athletic trainers. Prior to 2012, all post-professional athletic training programs were accredited by NATA, but in June the organization approved moving education programs to CAATE. Cal U became the first CAATE-accredited post-professional program and is now recognized as one of only 16 accredited post-professional athletic training programs in the United States.
Our courses and practical experiences will allow you to develop skills beyond entry level, making you more marketable and better prepared to excel in the profession of athletic training. All post-professional athletic training programs have points of distinctiveness that make them unique in their academic focus. Specifically the program provides students with knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Performance Enhancement in Physical Activity
- Leadership and Professional Development
- Technology in Athletic Training
As a student entering this program, you will receive a Master of Science degree in athletic training and can complete the requirements in one calendar year. Graduates of the program are eligible to receive national certification as a Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
You will learn how to use the same Optimum Performance Training Model used by the NASM for training Olympic and professional athletes. In addition, research and clinical experiences are an integral component of the program that will enhance your professional preparation.
Application instructions can be found on the menu to the left. Students must apply to both the graduate school and the program to be considered.
