Master of Education: Elementary Education

Our master's degree in elementary education, accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, is designed for students who have a baccalaureate degree and are seeking Pennsylvania elementary education (grades PreK-4) certification and/or a master's degree. This program is appropriate for students who wish to broaden their knowledge of elementary education and teachers certified in other areas, and for those with an undergraduate degree outside of education.

Students who are not certified in Pennsylvania must pass both the Praxis I and Praxis II tests. It is possible to earn the master's degree and elementary certification in the same program.

If you hold a Pennsylvania teacher certification, you may also satisfy the requirements of Act 48 by successfully completing graduate courses. Six graduate credits satisfy the 180-hour professional development requirements of Act 48. If you're interested, contact the College of Education and Human Services at 724-938-4125. For further information, see the Pennsylvania Department of Education website.

For further information, contact the Department of Early, Middle and Special Education at 724-938-4135 or email gradschool@calu.edu.

This former teacher is now Principal of Carnegie Elementary in the Carlynton School District. "My advise to students is not to wait for things to happen. You need to be aggressive with your career, create opportunities for yourself, and capitalize on those opportunities."
