Master of Social Work

Classes begin Fall

Our Master of Social Work (MSW) program is committed to developing your personal and professional growth, appreciating diversity, using an advanced generalist perspective to make a difference in rural environments, and preparing you to be highly competent, effective and well-regarded social work practitioners.

We'll prepare you to respond professionally and creatively to the increasingly complex matrix of rural human needs and strengths in a changing society. Built on a professional advanced generalist curriculum model, the program prepares you to work in direct and indirect practice and develop your leadership capacities to prevent and meet needs that affect people in southwestern Pennsylvania. The program is designed for students with bachelor's degrees in psychology, social sciences, sociology, liberal arts and other disciplines.

Our program is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) - the only accrediting body for social work education programs at the bachelor's and master's degree levels. Cal U's MSW program was granted initial accreditation in 2004 and reaccreditation in 2008 for a full eight years.

We offer two tracks: 4 semester, two-year program and a 6 semester, three-year program. We also offer an advanced standing program for those students with bachelor's degrees in social work from CSWE-accredited programs.
