Internship Opportunities
Internship opportunities through the Department of Business and Economics allow you to experience the professional work environment as part of your academic preparation.
In addition to earning academic credits that count toward meeting graduation requirements, an internship offers you an opportunity to apply the concepts and principles you learned to a real world setting. It's also an opportunity to confirm career interests, and to establish business contacts that may enhance future job prospects.
I. Qualifications
You can accept an internship during your junior or senior year as long as you have a GPA of at least 2.5 overall and 3.0 in your major.
II. Requirements
- Each semester hour of credit will require a minimum of 40 hours of internship participation (i.e., 3 credits will require 120 hours of work during the semester). A maximum of 12 credit hours may be taken. Internship credits can be used as either business electives or free electives.
- During the internship, you must submit progress reports to your faculty supervisor.
- Upon completion of the internship, you must submit a 5-7 page paper which should include a summary of:
- Company organization and mission
- Duties and responsibilities assumed while serving as an intern
- Student evaluation of the internship experience and internship site
- Upon completion, you also need to obtain an employer evaluation to verify hours worked and to comment on work performance.
III. Registration Procedure
- You can discuss internship possibilities and expectations with your academic advisor or the department faculty member assigned to supervise internships.
- After successfully obtaining an internship position, you need to complete the following steps:
- Complete the online orientations available on the University website: http://www.calu.edu/business-community/employers/internships/index.htm
- Register for "Internship Intent" during the regular registration period which is held during the Fall/Spring terms. (Note: "Intent" registration is not required for Summer Internships).
- Complete and submit an application on Internlink. Note: If you have any difficulty with the application process, just call or stop by the Internship Center for assistance. They are located in room 230 of the Eberly Science and Technology Center and the phone # is 724/938-1578.
