Rapid political and economic changes in the world require that you not only understand other cultures, but that you can communicate with people from those cultures. In this sense, familiarity with speaking and reading a modern language, such as Spanish, and being aware of how others think about the world is pragmatic.
We offer a Spanish minor as well as a language certification program for students who plan to teach in one of the language areas. Certifications in Spanish for Law Enforcement and Spanish for Business are offered as well.
Courses are taught in English at the beginning level, but as the student advances to intermediate and upper level courses, the class instruction progressively becomes an immersion in Spanish.
Additionally, through organizations such as the Hispanic Student Association, we offer support, cultural activities and a sense of community to all students interested in Spanish and Latin American cultures.
