The Program

The PGM program is dedicated to educating the future leaders of the golf industry. Our mission is to achieve this reality by providing a well-rounded approach to the academic framework associated with a professional golf management education. Specifically, students will obtain the hands-on and conceptual skills associated with managing business operations in the golf industry, and they will gain an understanding of the importance of practicing ethical standards of conduct throughout all aspects of their lives.

Our well-rounded approach also teaches students how to present a professional image, network, and attain equilibrium between their work and home lives. Our conceptual framework is based on the University’s core values of Integrity, Civility and Responsibility, and the program integrates leadership and collaborative autonomy into all areas of study.

Students in the PGM program are eligible to play on our varsity golf teams after participating in qualifying tryouts. Those who do not make the varsity team but who still wish to experience collegiate competition are eligible to try out for our PGM Club Team, which competes in between four and seven local and regional collegiate tournaments per year.

Our PGM program is heavily focused on growing the game of golf and on community service and involvement.

Each year, faculty and students of the PGM program volunteer many hours of their time providing free golf lessons for local junior golf programs such as those offered by the Boy Scouts and The First Tee. They also participate in grow-the-game initiatives such as Women's Golf Month and the LPGA Girls' Golf Initiative.

Since 2009, the PGM Student Society has planned, organized and run the annual Tee It Up for Tots charity golf outing to raise funds for the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh and other worthwhile charities. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain firsthand experience in tournament operations while giving back to those most in need.

Our annual event will be held on April 24th, 2016 at Cedarbrook Golf Course and will be a noon shotgun. Please contact us at (724) 938-6048 if you are interested in participating or in being a sponsor for our event! We would love to have you join us!
