Technology Management: Internships and Careers

Internships

An important opportunity in the technology management program is the internship. You may spend a semester or a summer working in an industrial or manufacturing setting. An internship broadens your education, offering experience in day-to-day operations of an industrial enterprise. You'll observe how products are produced and how problems are solved. In addition, the employer has an opportunity to observe you as prospective employees.

Career Opportunities

Opportunities for employment are diverse. Graduates find challenging and rewarding careers in all geographical areas of the United State as CAD operators, drafters, designers, engineering technicians, production supervisors, purchasing agents, industrial researchers, safety managers, manufacturing technicians, systems analysts, quality control engineers, CNC machine programmers, robotic technicians, industrial trainers and sales representatives. Our program has a 94% placement rate with average starting salaries of more than $30,000.

The average annual wage rates for technology management positions in southwestern Pennsylvania are more than $58,000 per year. Catalyst Connection, formerly the Southwestern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center, estimates that there are more than 4,100 industrial firms in the region that account for more than 196,000 manufacturing jobs. Pittsburgh was rated the top location in the country for two years in a row for factory automation equipment and service jobs. A recent national study of manufacturing executives found that management level positions are expected to increase by 19% to 36%.

Cal U prepares you to enter the workforce with knowledge, integrity, character and experience. With the help of the Career and Professional Development Center, we'll connect you to potential employers through networking events, job shadowing opportunities, on-campus recruiting, job and internship fairs, and organizational visits.
