PHS120 - Basic Physical Science with La

Basic Physical Science (L) is a laboratory-oriented course in physical science for non-majors. Laboratory activities/experiments are assigned, providing a hands-on introduction to experimental methods of scientific investigation. Each activity provides opportunities for the student to discover the practical knowledge necessary for a well-rounded understanding of physical science. 2 hours lecture and 1 hour laboratory each week. (3 crs.)

PHS137 - Intro to Environ Chem

This course is primarily intended for non-science majors who have an interest in environmental studies. The course provides a brief overview of basic chemistry and then examines the environment from a chemical viewpoint. Students will learn that humans live in a chemical environment and that chemistry affects and guides every aspect of our daily lives. It is included on the following menus: Natural Science, Critical Thinking and Technology Literacy. It is also approved as Lab Component Course. One and half hours lecture and one and half hours laboratory each week. Fall and Spring semester.

PHS145 - Astronomy

A presentation of methods of investigation and results of astronomical discoveries. Survey of facts and important astronomical theories. Solar system, what is a star, multiple star systems, variable starts and stellar evolution will be discussed. Instruments of the astronomer, such as telescopes and spectroscopes, will be used. Three class-hours each week. (3 crs.) As needed.
