

First-Year Seminar
The First-Year Seminar designed to help students make a smooth transition into the Cal U environment. This one-credit course (UNI 100) is required of most first-time students. Course topics include:
- Introduction and overview: student success
- Health and wellness issues
- Time management
- Campus life issues
- Library
- Campus resource centers (Math Lab, Reading Clinic, Writing Center, etc.)
- Core values
- Liberal arts education
- Academic plan development/ preparation for early registration
- Registration
- Career planning
- Financial aid
- Weeks 13-15: evaluations and individual appointments
Transfer students are not required to complete the First-Year Seminar if they transfer a course equivalent to UNI 100, or if they transfer a total of 24 or more credits. Students who take First-Year Seminar develop a success plan to help them graduate in four years. Each student's success plan will consist of:
- Academic plan
- Personal (extracurricular) plan
- Career advantage plan
- Financial plan
