Choose a Major
There are so many majors to choose from, it can be difficult to choose the one that's right for you. Sometimes the major that you thought was perfect doesn't turn out to be what you expected. Sometimes you have no idea where to start. Following are a few suggestions to help you:
1. Enroll in the Career Advantage Program
The Career Advantage Program (CAP) is a series of individualized activities designed to help you determine where to start to discover a major and career options that are a perfect fit for you. Check out the links at the right to watch a video that will tell you more about the program, read about the benefits and print an enrollment form.
2. Schedule an appointment with your career adviser in Career Services
It is often helpful to meet with your career adviser to talk about your interests, and to complete a career assessment. Your career adviser can help you define your interests, skills and values, explore majors and career options, and plan some action steps to begin to "test out" your major (such as job shadowing and Co-op).
3. Think about your interests, hobbies, skills, values and past experiences.
What do you love to do, even if you were not paid? What have you liked or not liked about your past work experiences? What is important to you in a job? Your career adviser can help you to "connect the dots."
