Great Work, Great Career

ABOUT GREAT WORK, GREAT CAREER

An important part of developing into a leader of high character is preparing for a life of contribution in your career.  It's not just about finding a job or career that is meaningful and fulfilling, and which allows you to give your best and make a difference.  This is key to being happy and successful.  - Stephen R. Covey

The economy is tough and competition is fierce. Prepare yourself now to obtain your dream career!  Great Work, Great Career (GWGC) is one of four components of the Leader for Life program at Cal U. By participating in GWGC, you will get the critical principles, mindset, skill set and toolset for differentiating yourself and getting a job and career you love.

HOW TO GET STARTED

Complete these three activities in order to earn your GWGC certificate as part of the Leader for Life program:

1.  Contact Career Services at Cal U to complete a career assessment (careers@calu.edu or 724-938-4413). You may have already completed a career assessment as part of the Cal U First Year Seminar class during your freshman year, but if you're not sure, the Career Services staff can check this for you.

2.  Complete the Great Work, Great Career course, a 3 1/2 hour online course. To access the online course, go to www.stephencovey.com.  Enter your Cal U email address and your campus-wide student ID (CWID) as your password.  Your CWID number will always have a capital “C” at the beginning, and then an 8-digit number that follows, such as: C12345678.  Since the password is case sensitive, please make sure to capitalize the “C.”  This will take you to the Cal U Leader for Life homepage. (If you do not know your CWID number, you can find it in your VIP account, or by calling the Office of Academic Records at 724-938-4434.  The 16-digit number on your Cal U card is not your CWID, and you should not use this as your password.)

3.  Create or update your resume incorporating the solutions and skills you can offer to potential employers that you learned in the GWGC course.  Upload your resume on the College Central Network, Cal U's online resume and job postings site, at www.collegecentral.com/calu for approval

Once you have completed these three activities, you will receive your GWGC certificate.

For those who prefer a “live” classroom setting with classmates and the guidance of an instructor, you may choose to complete the above Great Work, Great Career Requirements by enrolling in Cal U’s 1-credit Career Readiness class (UNI 200).  In this class, you will not only complete all requirements for the Great Work, Great Career certificate - you will learn even more inside tips and put into practice current job search tools and techniques that you can use to get a job you love after graduation! Simply register for Career Readiness UNI 200 when you register for your fall or spring classes.
