Nicole Duschek - A.W. Beattie & Fayette Vo Tech

Internship Placement Name:  A.W. Beattie, Allison Park, PA & Fayette Vo Tech, Uniontown, PA

Your internship title: 2+2+2 Intern

How did you find your internship?
I had received an e-mail regarding the internship. I was also recommended for the internship by Dr. Hummell.

What are your primary responsibilities/day-to-day activities?
On a daily basis I have assisted the students with their robotics projects. I have also demonstrated how to use Solid Works and organized the majority of the paperwork required for each of their competitions.

What is the best part of your internship?
The best part of my internship was attending the robotics competitions and see how proud the students were of what they had created over the past few months.

What are the top two things you have learned?
I have expanded my knowledge of robotics greatly. Prior to my internship I had known very little about robotics and took this opportunity to increase my knowledge of this subject matter. I have also learned there is a fine line between being a friend and teacher in the students eyes. I have learned how to manage my classroom yet still relate to the students all at once. It has been and experience that has made me grow greatly as an educator.

Would you recommend this internship to someone else?
Yes. This internship is a great opportunity to learn more about robotics and become more knowledgeable about being in a classroom environment.

A quote from you regarding your internship experience?
The 2+2+2 internship was a great experience that allowed me to grow not only in the robotics field but strengthen my skills as an educator as well.

Scott Neville - Dynamic Aviation

Internship Placement: Dynamic Aviation, Bridgewater VA

Your Internship Title:  Airframe and power plant mechanic Intern

How did you find your internship?
Through a job fair that I attended in the spring at my old college – PIA - where I met some of the people from the HR department and asked if they had any openings for interns or anything for the summer.  They said they did, so I applied and got the Internship.

What are your primary responsibilities/day-to-day activities?
As a certified aircraft mechanic by the FAA I was able to work on planes, doing everything from basic repairs to more complicated tests that required other people, rode brakes, fueled planes for flight. I also built a brake bleed cart and used a lot of the things that I learned at PIA 5 years later.  When there was no work to be done on the planes, I did hangar maintenance.

Tell me about the most fascinating person you have met during your internship.
Everyone.  I love meeting new people in aviation and learning about their backgrounds.   I met people who worked on helicopters, fighters, and just about everything in between.

What is the best part of your internship?
Everything.  Meeting new people and working on the planes.

What are the top two things you have learned?
Live life to the fullest and never give up on your dreams!!!

Would you recommend this internship to someone else?
YES if you love planes as much as I do.

A quote from you regarding your internship experience?
“From the fields of Bridgewater Va., to the fields of Oshkosh, an old bird gets new wings.”
