Campus Ministry

Spiritual development is an integral part of the process of education and human growth. Cal U's campus ministry fosters student life through character development, prayer, learning, service and social interaction. The ministry offers:

Chaplains representing various faiths participate and put students in touch with priests, ministers, clerics or rabbis of their chosen denomination.

California University Campus Ministry helps to meet the needs of students at Cal U by offering fellowship groups, informal counseling, Bible studies, service opportunities and more. 

The Catholic chaplain is supported by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.

S.T.A.N.D. (Students Taking A New Direction) is an inter-denominational ministry that meets on Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. in Morgan Hall Auditorium. S.T.A.N.D. is designed to help students who are testing the waters of Christianity have a safe place to explore it along with helping those who would consider themselves followers of Christ grow deeper in their faith.  Freshmen Bible Study meets Thursday nights through the fall semester at 9:00 p.m. in Residence Hall B TV Lounge.  It is a great way for freshmen to get connected in a smaller group.  We also have Upperclassmen Bible Studies and a wide variety of socials, service projects and retreat/conferences.  Contact our Campus Minister Pete Ware (a CCO staff member at with any questions or to receive our calendar of events.  Advisor Dr. Daniel Engstrom (724) 938-1523.

Young and Gifted Gospel Choir is a talented student group that meets weekly for times of singing, fellowship, and learning about the history of Gospel music. The choir offers performances on campus as well as traveling to other areas. The Gospel Choir shows their commitment in ministering to others by sharing their talents in the name of Christ. Cal ROCKS Reaching Out for Catholic Kinship) “Newman Club” (is an organization which has been developed to foster fellowship and learning opportunities among Catholic university students. This organization does not only provide students with an opportunity to further their faith, but also to learn about the history and development of the Catholic Church. All students, regardless of denomination, are welcome to learn and participate in fellowship with this organization. Cal ROCKS meets every Sunday (and when needed) at 7pm in Natali Student Center Room 206/207. Bible studies, game nights and other fellowship takes place throughout the week.  Contact Father Mike Zavage for more information. New Life Christian Fellowship is a Baptist-supported ministry that is open to students of any denomination. New Life offers students a community in which to explore their beliefs, make friends, enjoy their college experience, study God’s Word, and be a part of something bigger than them.
