Healthy Habits is dedicated to educating, motivating and empowering the California University of Pennsylvania community to make healthy lifestyle choices that improve overall quality of life.

Healthy Habits provides information and support to help all members of the University community looking to lead healthier, balanced lives. Developed through the Department of Recreational Services, the program offers workshops, walking groups, exercise classes, and special events.

Healthy Habits Classes

Group Fitness Class Descriptions:


Cardio Variety- This is the ULTIMATE cardio class. This class is geared to give you a Total Body Conditioning workout. It focus's on testing your strength and muscular endurance and push's your anaerobic threshold by introducing plyometrics, coordination drills, and weight training. If you're looking to tone up and want a REAL challenge, then this class is for you!


Boot Camp- Get ready to sweat!  This class features a wide range of training techniques including drills, plyometrics, calisthenics, and much more that will push you to your limits.  If you are looking for a challenge, this class is for you.  Boot Camp is sure to whip you into shape! 


Ultimate Abs- This half-hour class will whip your abs into shape, giving you core strength and the aesthetic results you desire. Stop doing crunches on your own;  this class uses various stations and/or equipment to make ab work fun again!


Zumba!  Zumba® fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked.   Zumba® will help you to achieve long term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!


1-2-3 core class -
"One of the most effective tools to strengthen you're core muscles and shape you're entire body-- the fitness ball.  A 1-2-3 Core technique is used to increase your heart rate and burn more calories. This effective routine includes everything you need in a workout to blast calories, work your arms, tighten your butt and abs, and trim your legs--all in 45 min.   All fitness levels encouraged!


What's What with Fitness Classes


Stretch and Meditate - A series of gentle stretching to wake the body, followed by a relaxing guided meditation to prepare participants for their day.

Lower Body Toning - A variety of exercises that target the larger muscles of the lower body.  The focus remains on legs, abs, and glutes as exercisers work on endurance.

Fit Ball - Participants use the stability ball to challenge core muscles of the body.  Both the upper and lower body is used for a balanced total body workout.

Cardio Variety - Just like it sounds!  A variety of cardio exercises that will keep changing to avoid boredom, and challenge your heart rate.

Interval - Interval class uses short segments of cardio, strength, and endurance.  The instructor cues from one group of exercises to the next at a challenging pace to keep the participants burning calories.

De-Jiggle Your Middle - A tough but encouraging class that focuses on abdominal work.

Pilates - A no-impact series of exercises that maintains core control and appropriate breathing.  Sometimes bands are added to challenge participants further.

Intermediate Abs - A class for everyone!  If you want to work your abdominals, and haven't been working out regularly, give this class a try!

Ultimate Abs - This abdominal class is geared for those who are in shape, familiar with proper form, and looking for a serious challenge!

A$$ Class - A direct hit to the buns!  Sixty minutes of squats, lunges, and other moves to re-shape your rear and build lean muscle!

Zumba -  A cardio blast of movements lightly based on Latin Dance.  Zumba is exercise in disguise!  Participants are guaranteed to have fun!

F.I.T. -  FIT stands for Fitness in Tempo.  This class keeps your heart pumping and your body having fun with a variety of dance and hip-hop moves.

Total Body Sculpt - Hit every major muscle group in your body to burn calories for 24 hours!  All levels are welcome to this back to basics class that challenges the muscles, not your coordination!

Resistance Bands- Class uses resistance bands to help strength and tone muscles of the entire body.
