Summer Tuition Assistance

Follow the following steps to secure financial aid for the summer semester.

File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

The FAFSA is your application for federal student aid. Aid includes the Pell grant (for undergraduate students only) and Stafford loans for all eligible students. Most students are eligible for the Stafford loan provided that they are U.S. citizens, are not in default on a previous school loan and have not borrowed over the aggregate limit.

Your FAFSA is filed with the Department of Education. Understand that we cannot pull in any information until you have been accepted into your program. In addition, we only run the FAFSA report on the weekends.

Register for Classes

You must be registered for classes in order to be eligible for financial aid. Undergraduate students must be registered for a minimum of six credits and graduate students a minimum of five credits to be eligible for any financial aid, including private alternative loans.

Summer Stafford Loan Application – FOR SUMMER SEMESTER ONLY

If you are requesting aid for the summer semester, you must download this form – and include the requested amount. You may want to estimate the costs of the books and include that in your requested amount. You can view your bill on your student services account to determine the exact amount of your charges.

There is a fax number on the bottom left corner of the form. The best way to submit the form to ensure the quickest processing time is via fax.

NOTE: No aid will be awarded if this form is not submitted.

Submit all Other Documents

You may be required to submit additional documents to finalize your FAFSA and financial aid requirements.

The following is a list of possible documents that may pertain to you:

Verification Documents including student/parents’ most recent tax returns and independent/dependent verification worksheet.

Veteran’s forms if you indicated “veteran” on the FAFSA

Citizenship clearing documents

To find out if you are required to submit these documents, log on to your student services account.

Log in to Student Services Account

Your student services account is where you will find access to your financial aid and student account information at all times. To access this account, go to www.calu.edu and click on “Quick Links” from the menu bar across the top of the screen. Under “Student Information and Services” you will see “Log-in to Student Services.” This will redirect you to your account. Your login is your Social Security number without the dashes and your password (unless you have changed it) will be your six-digit birth date. Be sure to change your password if it is the first time you have logged in.

This account is where you must check for your summer awards. We do not send out award letters, e-mails or other notifications of your awards for the summer semester. It is your responsibility to log in to your account to view your summer awards.

Accept Your Award

If you are continuing your program into the summer and have received aid in the past semesters, you will not need to accept your awards. You should have already filled out the Stafford Master Promissory Note and completed the entrance counseling at the beginning of your program and your aid will automatically be accepted for any semester after that.

If you are beginning your program in the summer, you must complete the online entrance counseling and sign your Stafford Master Promissory Note to accept your awards. You will only need to complete these once at the beginning of your program.

No aid will be disbursed until you accept your award.

In most cases, if you have filed a Master Promissory Note any time in the last 10 years, you do not have do this again. If while attempting to do this online you are told that Cal U has not processed your loan yet, then most likely you are not required to file the MPN. Contact AES toll-free at 1-800-443-0646 to clarify if you are required to do this or not.

Once you have completed all of these steps, you will have completed the financial aid process. Your loans will be disbursed directly to Cal U. To check on your financial aid or review any changes, log on to your student services account.
