German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge - 2017

The German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (German: Abzeichen für Leistungen im Truppendienst) is a military decoration of the Bundeswehr, the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. The decoration can be awarded to all German Soldiers. Allied Soldiers may also be awarded the badge.

Any rank may be awarded and wear the badge. For the United States military, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge is one of the few approved foreign awards, and it is one of the most sought after awards to achieve.

Who Can Participate?

Any Soldier from your unit! Unfortunately, Veterans or those Service members who may have separated from active duty or reserve military service are not permitted to participate. Furthermore, Soldiers who are flagged (for any reason) / barred from re-enlistment OR if they have been in the military for less than 6 months are NOT permitted to test.

FAQ's

Q1: When is the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge testing in 2017?

A1: The Cal U Office of Veterans Affairs will host the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge testing on Friday, April 21 & Saturday, April 22, 2017. In-processing and testing will take place all day on April 21, 2017.

Q2: Is there a cost associated with the testing?

A2: There will be a non-refundable registration fee of $40.00 to offset the costs to administer and provide logistical functions for this event.

Q3: What is required in order to reserve a slot for the April 2017 GAFPB testing?

A3: In order to receive a RESERVED slot for this testing, applicants must request an application by e-mailing prah@calu.edu. Applications, with required documentation, is REQUIRED in order to have a RESERVED seat. First come, first served.  Each applicant will need to complete and submit a full application packet. A complete application packet will include:

a. Memorandum from first O-3 in your chain of command OR full-time Readiness NCO / Training NCO stating that you are (sample memos are available upon request)

a. 1. Not FLAGGED for any adverse action

a. 2. Must have a valid / current APFT on file with your unit

a. 3. Statement of support within memo that your chain of command confirms your high level of physical fitness and ability to participate in a volunteer status for this testing event

b. Submit and confirm receipt of $40.00 (non-refundable) registration fee. If paying by check or money order, please make payments payable to: SAI-Vets Club. *CASH is strongly discouraged unless you are a current Cal U student* Checks and money orders may be mailed to: California University of Pennsylvania Veteran's Club, 250 University Avenue, Box 84 Attention: CAL U GAFPB, California, Pa 15419. Each applicant will have 3 business days to submit payment (after submitting names to veterans@calu.edu)

c. Proof of civilian healthcare insurance (copies of ID cards or proof of insurance) is required. Failure to provide proof of medical insurance will disqualify you from participating. If you attend the GAFPB testing and are unable to provide a copy of insurance, you will not be permitted to take part in testing. For all AGR & Active Duty personnel, please bring military ID card to in-processing on 21 April 2017.

  • 11 x 10 meter sprint test (indoor)
  • Chin-up test (flexed-arm hang) (indoor)

  • 100 meter swim in uniform (indoor, NCAA pool)

Official Registration Information

How Do I Register?

  • Interested Service members are required to request an application from prah@calu.edu beginning Monday, January 9, 2017.

Upon receipt of the application form, each Service member will have 3 business days to return the form as well as 3 business days for the Office of Veterans Affairs to receive $40.00 payment to reserve a testing seat. If the registration form and payment aren't received in 3 business days, your name will be moved to the bottom of the list and another Service member in "WAIT STATUS" will be moved into your position. Due to a high demand of applicants, we are unable to adjust the timelines or make exceptions. Detailed information will be made available on the GAFPB registration form.

Submit and confirm receipt of $40.00 (non-refundable) registration fee.
