About Our Global Education Summit 2011 Keynote Speakers:
Erin Gruwell
Erin Gruwell has earned an award-winning reputation for her steadfast commitment to the future of education. Her impact as a change agent runs deep. So deep, in fact, that her story attracted Hollywood’s attention. In January 2007, Paramount Pictures released
Freedom Writers, starring two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank as Gruwell. The film is based on The Freedom Writers Diary, The New York Times best-seller that chronicled Gruwell’s extraordinary journey with 150 high school students who had been written off by the education system.
Gruwell and her students have appeared on numerous television shows, including Oprah, Prime Time Live with Connie Chung, The View, and Good Morning America, to name a few. Their story has earned them dozens of awards, including the Spirit of Anne Frank Award.
Gruwell is a graduate of the University of California Irvine, where she received the Lauds and Laurels Distinguished Alumni Award. She earned her Master’s Degree and teaching credentials from California State University Long Beach, where she was honored as Distinguished Alumna by the School of Education.
Sean Covey
Sean Covey brings executive experience in the field of innovation and leadership development. As a New York Times bestselling author, Sean has sold millions of books for young adults.
Sean Covey is the Executive Vice President of Global Solutions and Partnerships for FranklinCovey and has led the development of many FranklinCovey's organizational offerings, including: FOCUS, Leadership, The 4 Disciplines of Execution, The Leader in Me, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Sean oversees all of FranklinCovey's international partnerships, which cover more than 140 countries.
Sean is also FranklinCovey's Education Practice Leader and is devoted to transforming education around the globe through bringing leadership principles and skills to students, educators, administrators, and parents alike.
He is a New York Times bestselling author and has written several books, including The 6 Most Important Decisions You'll Ever Make, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, which has been translated into 20 languages and sold over 4 million copies worldwide.
He is a seasoned speaker to kids, teens, and adults and has appeared on numerous radio and TV shows. Sean graduated with honors from BYU with a bachelor's degree in English and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. As the starting quarterback for BYU, he led his team to two bowl games and was twice selected as the ESPN Most Valuable Player of the Game.
Dr. Angelo Armenti, Jr.
Dr. Armenti began his term as the sixth President of California University of Pennsylvania in 1992. He holds a PhD from Temple University in Physics. Among Dr. Armenti’s accomplishments at Cal U: admission applications have increased by 90%; average SATs have increased by 113 points; and four-year graduation rates have increased by 94%. Amazing progress has been made in the academic area under his leadership, including the establishment of Global Online, an internet-based academic community where a student may obtain his/her degree completely online. He is a certified facilitator in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and teaches two workshops every academic year.
Stone Kyambadde
Known to millions throughout the world as FranklinCovey's model transition figure, Stone inspires and ignites purpose and meaning in executives and professionals at all organizational levels.
For more than 20 years, Stone Kyambade has worked with street kids in Uganda through the "Wolves" Football program. Football (soccer) serves as a magnet to draw idle teenagers off the streets and into a program that leads toward personal transformation. The Wolves football program works on prevention by providing a structured, disciplined daily sports program to keep teenage boys from broken homes off the streets, out of trouble, and off of drugs.
Through football, Stone is able to reach out to teenage boys, many of whom have dropped out of school and are unemployed. He coaches, teaches, and mentors them, providing them opportunities that will allow them to become proactive and productive men in society.
The family-like culture of the Wolves gives boys and young men opportunities to learn to relate to each other in proactive ways that build a team-focused thought process that equips them to function more effectively in their diverse society. Along with the sports training, Stone finds ways for them to learn and develop work skills so that those who cannot earn a living playing football professionally will be able to find work and be productive citizens.
Stone is featured as a model "transition figure" in FranklinCovey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People© Signature Program. Habit 1: Be Proactive highlights Stone, in a self-titled video and his life-changing work with Ugandan youth.

Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School, Muriel Summers and her staff created the first leadership elementary school in the nation using FranklinCovey's 7 Habits program as a foundation. A.B. Combs is a diverse elementary school, boasting children from 64 countries. Combs to continually achieve high levels of academic performance year after year.
Muriel's school has been featured on several national television programs including PBS, Good Morning America, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. A.B. Combs is also featured in Dr. Stephen Covey's books The 8th Habit and The Leader in Me. During her tenure at A.B.
