Track Descriptions & Speaker Bios

Following the keynote presentations on August 5 we will be breaking into tracks for elementary/primary, secondary, and higher education. You will have the option to select your desired track during the registration process.

Elementary/Primary Track: A Leader in Every Child

The Leader in Me process is rippling across the globe. What makes The Leader in Me process work? Four things:

  1. It's a new paradigm — every child is a leader.
  2. It's built around timeless, universal principles.
  3. It involves teachers, students, and parents.
  4. The approach is ubiquitous — everywhere, all the time!

Attend this track to learn from The Leader in Me Lighthouse Schools throughout the nation. Take your vision of The Leader in Me a step deeper through intimate discussion with Sean Covey and practitioners who will share best practices and key findings. In addition, network with educators involved in The Leader in Me process around the globe.

Secondary Track: Building Leaders, One Teen at a Time

This track is a means for educators, administrators, and superintendents to help improve student performance, reduce conflicts, and enhance cooperation and teamwork among parents, teens, and teachers. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens® provides students with a step-by-step framework to:

  • Boost self-image.
  • Build friendships.
  • Resist peer pressure.
  • Achieve goals.
  • Improve communication and relationships with parents.

Join Sean Covey, best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens to discover how schools are using the 7 Habits to achieve transformational results in secondary education.

Higher-Ed Track:

This track will provide an overview of how California University of Pennsylvania has implemented the 7 Habits principles into the teaching, mentoring, and career development activities of students, faculty, and staff.  Specific activities, principles, and curriculum will be discussed, including:

  • Providing 7 Habits training to all students, faculty, and staff at Cal U
  • Building mission statements into the classroom curriculum
  • Designing curriculum to teach the 7 Habits in the classroom for more in-depth, research-based activities
  • Designing a 7 Habits pre-school program through the College of Education

This track will also provide a brief overview of FranklinCovey's plans to develop curriculum for higher education.

Muriel SummersMuriel Summers, Principal of A.B. Combs Leadership Magnet Elementary School in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2006 A.B. Combs was awarded #1 Magnet School in America and has since hosted thousands of visitors from around the globe who come to experience its 7 Habits-based leadership culture.

Sean Covey

Sean Covey, author of bestselling books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, The 6 Most Important Decisions You'll Ever Make, and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids. Sean is Chief Innovations Officer at FranklinCovey and leads the Education Practice in its mission to Enable Greatness in Educators and Students Everywhere.

David Langford

David Langford has trained colleagues in K-12 school systems, the military, universities, colleges, pre-schools, churches, and business to identify systemic problems and create quality solutions that improve learning.  He has presented his trademark seminar more than 300 times to more than 35,000 educators.  David will share multiple examples of Langford Quality Learning innovation and application.

Dr. Armenti

Dr. Angelo Armenti, Jr. began his term as the sixth President of California University of Pennsylvania in 1992.  He holds a PhD from Temple University in Physics.  Among Dr. Armenti's accomplishments at California University:  admission applications have increased by 90%; average SATs have increased by 113 points; and four-year graduation rates have increased by 94%.  Amazing progress has been made in the academic area under his leadership, including the establishment of Global Online, an internet-based academic community where a student may obtain his/her degree completely online.  He is a certified facilitator in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and teaches two workshops every academic year.

Salome Thomas-El

Salome Thomas-El has been a teacher and principal in Pennsylvania and Delaware since 1987. He has received the Marcus A. Foster Award as the outstanding school administrator in Philadelphia and was honored as a Reader's Digest Inspiring American Icon.  Principal EL frequently appears on C-SPAN, CNN and NPR radio. He is the author of the new paperback, The Immortality of Influence.  His first book, I Choose to Stay, was optioned by Disney Films.

Jerry Salandro

Jerry Salandro is an entrepreneur, inventor and innovator of video technology tools.  He founded IRIS Technologies in 1987.  Mr. Salandro holds nearly 56 software patent claims that are being used across the country in corporations like ABC, NASA and Motorola as well as in colleges and high schools.  He speaks to students, coaches and businesses on how to use technology to create better employees, students and athletes.
