Mon Valley Jazz Orchestra

Max Gonaro leads the Mon Valley Jazz Orchestra.

The Mon Valley Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2009 by trumpeter Ron Levi for the primary purpose of sight reading difficult charts. In 2013, Max Gonano joined the band as a musical director.

Musicians travel from as far away as Fairmont, W.Va. to participate in grueling, monthly rehearsals at Ecks Tavern in Monongahela.

As one talented musician said after rehearsal, "Just when I thought I was getting good, this rehearsal has made me very humble."

Although the band is primarily a rehearsal band, they have play various jazz events in the area and are excited to be able to perform at Cal U.
