Cal U Committees

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall have the authority and the responsibility to assure the proper functioning and periodic (biennial) review of the California University Forum, according to its approved Constitution and Bylaws.  The Executive Committee shall have the authority to act for the University Forum on those matters requiring attention between meetings of the Forum.  It shall have the authority to call the Forum into extraordinary session and shall routinely determine the agenda for Forum meetings, subject to subsequent revision of that agenda by majority vote of the Forum.  The Executive Committee shall receive input from any and all sources regarding possible Forum action and shall, at its discretion, either place such matters on the Forum agenda or, if appropriate, forward those matters to an appropriate body within or without the Forum committee structure for further action or study.  All matters which originate in standing committees of the Forum, including standing committee minutes, shall be forwarded in a timely fashion to the Executive Committee.  Minutes of the Executive Committee shall be taken, approved, and distributed to the Forum membership.

Academic Policy Committee

The Academic Policy Committee shall have the authority to recommend changes with regard to University-wide academic policies in such areas as intellectual climate, academic standards, and academic quality.

Athletic Advisory Committee

The Athletic Advisory Committee shall have jurisdiction to recommend policy changes to the University Forum in the area of athletics. The scope of the committee shall include intercollegiate athletics at the varsity and club levels, and intramural athletics, and shall be limited to the applicable policies and guidelines of the NCAA and the PSAC. Recommendations concerning intramural athletics shall be made after consultation with the Student Life Committee.

Budget Committee

The Budget Committee shall monitor the development of the University Budget, not on an audit-type or line-by-line review of all expenditures, but rather to make certain that major allocations of funds among the colleges, schools, activities and interests of the University are in accord with the Annual Statement of University Policies, Priorities, and Resources. This document will be developed by the University administration, with input from the Planning and Priorities Committee, and will be finalized after review and comment by the University Forum.

Planning and Priorities Committee

The Planning and Priorities Committee shall have the authority to make recommendations to the Forum regarding long-range institutional goals, as well as annual goals for the University as a whole. The Committee shall also have authority to recommend priorities for fund raising, for the construction of new buildings, and for major additions and / or renovations to existing buildings, on a University-wide basis. A key responsibility of the Planning and Priorities Committee shall be to review and offer comment on the Annual Statement of University Policies, Priorities, and Resources, as that document is being developed by the University administration and prior to its being presented to the Forum for its review and comment.

Student Life Committee

The Student Life Committee shall have the authority to recommend changes in University policy in all areas of student life, including but not limited to, the social and cultural welfare of all student of the University, student organizations, publications, broadcasts, extra-curricular activities, and residence life. The Student Life Committee may also recommend changes regarding intramural athletics to the Athletic Advisory Committee.
