Vulcans Host NCAA Regional

The women’s basketball team will make its ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Vulcans will host the first two rounds of the Atlantic Regional March 12-13 in Hamer Hall.

Child welfare conference

Registration deadline is March 15 for Cal U’s inaugural child welfare conference. “Building a New Foundation: Child Well-Being for a New Era” will be held March 26 in the Performance Center. Keynote speaker David J. Lett is a regional administrator for the Administration for Children and Families.

Panelists talk politics

TV political commentator Jon Delano and a team of experts will reflect on the first year of the Obama presidency and look ahead to Pennsylvania’s gubernatorial, congressional and Senate races in a panel presentation 7 p.m. March 16 in Eberly 110.

Women's Studies Conference

The Guerrilla Girls will headline the fifth annual Audrey-Beth Fitch Women’s Studies Conference, "The Arts and Activism: Equality for All." The full-day event is March 18 in the Performance Center.

Help for Haiti

Cal U is joining in the Haiti relief effort coordinated by PASSHE. President Armenti invites the entire Cal U community to join the fundraising effort and help rebuild a school destroyed by the earthquake.

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition

Digital technology reveals the beauty of nature in Transitions: Photographs by Robert Creamer, an exhibition created by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration the National Museum of Natural History. Transitions will open Dec. 18 in Manderino Gallery, on the third floor of Manderino Library at California University. The images will remain on view through April 27.

Hockey Team Seeks National Title

The Cal U I men’s hockey team is seeking its second national championship this week. The club will compete March 10-14 at the 2010 American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III National Championships in Estero, Fla.

Spring break bus route

The MMVTA Silver Line will have NO service on Sunday, March 7, and operate on a LIMITED schedule March 8-12. Full service resumes Sunday, March 14.

New bus route

Campus bus service has been rerouted and bus stops changed now that the intersection of Third Street and Gallagher Way has been closed. Buses will access the main campus via Hickory Street, with stops near Building B, Hickory and Third, and near Manderino Library.

INTERSECTION CLOSED

Beginning March 1, the intersection of Third Street and Gallagher Way will close PERMANENTLY to traffic. Signs will be posted and a turn-around area will be provided. Pedestrians will continue to have access to Gallagher and Morgan halls.

NO THRU-TRAFFIC

Beginning March 1, there will be no thru-traffic on Third Street between Hickory and Gallagher Way. To reach Gallagher Hall from Third Street, drivers must make a RIGHT at the intersection with Hickory, continue to the stop sign at Hickory and Sixth, then turn LEFT and follow Sixth Street to Gallagher Hall.

MMVTA Bus Service Update

All routes are scheduled to resume normal operations on 2/13/2010.  However, the Red and Blue Lines will continue to use SNOW DETOURS until further notice & Route B will not have access to Downtown Coal Center but will travel the Coal Center bend past 84 Lumber and back to Route 88.

HANDICAPPED, VISITOR PARKING

Handicapped access parking spaces are available on the main campus. All bus service between Roadman Park and main campus is handicapped accessible. Limited parking for visitors is available in the small lot beside Kara Alumni House.

DIRECTIONS TO ROADMAN PARK

From the Cal U entrance, follow Third Street to the traffic light at Wood. Turn left; continue uphill to the stop sign. Bear left slightly to continue on California Road (Route 88). Roadman Park is on your right. For parking, use the entrance just AFTER Adamson Stadium.

BUS SERVICE BY MMVTA

Marked buses run every 10/20 minutes (peak/off-peak) from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. weekdays. One-way ride takes about 10 minutes. BUS STOPS: Roadman Park Lot, Manderino Library, Natali Student Center, corner of Third/Gallagher. After 7:20 a.m., the route TO CAMPUS ONLY adds stops at Vulcan Village and MMVTA Park-n-Ride Lot.

THIRD STREET CLOSED NEAR GALLAGHER

Third Street near Gallagher Hall is closed to traffic. To reach the River Lot, use the Hamer railroad crossing: Follow signs from Green Street to Second to Beazell, then take the Loop Road to the crossing.

RAIL CROSSING OPEN AT THIRD STREET

The Third Street railroad crossing remains OPEN, with access to Morgan Hall (and handicapped parking) through the River Lot. The sidewalk adjacent to Gallagher Hall remains OPEN to pedestrians for access to Morgan and Gallagher halls.

HAMER WAY CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION

Hamer Way is CLOSED from the Third St. intersection to the railroad crossing. The Hamer crossing to the River Lot will remain OPEN. Vehicles exiting the River Lot at the Hamer crossing must turn RIGHT. The Hamer Parking Lot is permanently closed.

EXIT RESTRICTED AT HAMER HALL

The exterior doors of Hamer Hall facing the construction site are designated as EMERGENCY EXITS ONLY. To enter and leave Hamer Hall, use doors facing Coover Hall.

RIVER LOT ADDITION OPEN

The addition to the River Lot is now OPEN, with the exception of some spaces at the far end. Lighting has been installed. The remaining spaces will be opened once the call boxes are in operation.

NO PARKING BEHIND LIBRARY
