WCAL Presents Heavy Metal Monessen 3

Heavy Metal Monessen is returning to the Monessen City Park Amphitheater this Saturday, April 23rd for the third year in a row. The show is a free-to-the-public music and arts festival, and is aimed at bringing some of Pittsburgh best hard rock and heavy metal acts to the community of Monessen. It is set to go from 12-8pm, with the first band taking the stage at 1pm. This year’s line-up features Revival Recordings artist Cabaret Runaway, as well as Solarburn, Klaymore, Only Flesh, Tartarus, Old Lords, Talion, Shadow of Corvus, Boomstick, and more.

This year is set to be the biggest yet, with 10 bands on two separate stages taking over the newly renovated city park for an afternoon of heavy music festivities. There will be local food vendors on site, and the City Park Amphitheater Committee will be present selling beverages to raise money so that they can host more community events.

Interviews with the artists will be held every Sunday from 6-10pm on 91.9fm WCAL during The Currently Untitled Metal Show with DJ Zach. They can be heard at 91.9fm, or streamed live from the station’s website, their iPhone app, or TuneIn Radio. For the most up-to-date information on the festival, be sure to follow Heavy Metal Monessen on Facebook, and RSVP to the event “Heavy Metal Monessen 3.”

Heavy Metal Monessen also has strong ties to California University of Pennsylvania. The festival was founded by two university students, WCAL DJ Zachary Fehl and Amphitheater Committee President Matthew Shorraw. Cabaret Runaway features amuni Andrew Dinger and Kyle Purtell. Tartarus features alumni Brian Smith. Shadow of Corvus is the project of current Commercial Music Technology student Branden Bonner. The Rivers Edge was founded by former student and WCAL talk show personality Brian Crawford. Many of the volunteers who will be assisting the technical aspects of the festival will also be Cal U students and WCAL DJs.

Heavy Metal Monessen presented by 91.9fm WCAL, The River’s Edge Radio Network, and Placid Promotions.
