Prone to kidney stones? Swap iced tea for lemon water. Iced tea is one of the worst drinks for stones, whereas lemons can help prevent them.

When life gives you kidney stones, drink lemon-flavored water. People who are prone to the most common type of kidney stones should avoid drinking iced tea and sip water with lemon slices instead. Chronic dehydration is a common cause of kidney stones, so staying hydrated is especially important. Whereas iced tea can increase the risk of stones, the acid in lemons helps lower it. According to researchers, iced tea is one of the worst things you can drink, because it contains large amounts of oxalate, a chemical that may crystallize and form stones in the urinary tract. Lemons, on the other hand, contain citrates, which help prevent kidney stones from forming. Just be sure you’re drinking lemon water made with real lemons.
