The monthly meeting of the Civil War Roundtable at California University of PA will be on Thursday, November 8th, 2012 from 7:00PM to 9:00PM in the KARA-BOOKER GREAT ROOM in the KARA ALUMNI HOUSE. Doors will be open at 6:30pm.
The speaker for the November meeting is Mr. Zac Cowsert. Mr. Cowsert graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana with a B.A. in History and Political Science. He is a graduate student at the University of West Virginia. During the summers, Mr. Cowsert works as a seasonal historian for Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park.
His topic will be: “King Cotton Failed: Confederate Foreign Policy with Great Britain.”
The Confederacy relied on cotton, the lifeblood of the Southern economy, to help leverage independence from Great Britain. Confident of recognition, the Confederacy crafted a presumptuous and arrogant foreign policy that actually lessened the likelihood of British intervention.
