11th Annual Habitat for Humanity Box-Out!

April 19, 2013 (10:00 am) – April 20, 2013 (11:00 am)

Quad Located Behind Herron Gymnasium

Mission: The mission statement of Habitat for Humanity includes the bullet points of “promoting dignity and hope” as well as “advocate for affordable housing.”  With this being known, the Habitat for Humanity club at CalU is proud to bring you the 11th Annual Box-Out event to campus.  The main purpose of this event is to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity International, which is a nonprofit organization that is founded on the belief that every man, woman, and child should have a safe and affordable place to live, regardless of race, religion, and socioeconomic standing.

Purpose: Habitat for Humanity builds simple, affordable, and decent housing for low income families around the world.  The Habitat for Humanity club at CalU works very closely with our local affiliate in Washington, PA, volunteering at least one Saturday per month constructing these houses right in our very own backyard.   Homelessness is an issue on the global scale and closer to home that we’d like to believe.  The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of homelessness by having participants stay overnight in cardboard boxes, with all money raised from this event going directly to our affiliate in Washington.

Box Out Procedures: Each organization/club/team will be given various materials in which they will be expected to make a shelter using only what they have been supplied with.  On the day of the event, a theme will be chosen and all teams will be expected to build a structure that relates to the theme, which will be judged and the winning team will receive a monetary prize separate from the income received during the event.  During the morning of the event, breakfast will be provided to all participants.

Registration: This year, the Box-Out will cost $50 per team that registers.  We will be accepting cash and checks this year, as well as account transfers.  Please make all checks out to Habitat for Humanity.  Please see our table in the Natali Student Union over the next few weeks or contact club President Ian Harvey at or (814) 592 – 7284 to get all registration materials!
