WHAT: 1st Annual Indian Lake Park Bioblitz

WHEN: Saturday April 26th, 2014 from 9:00am to 2:00pm

WHO: California University, Norwin High School, and YOU!

This April 26th, join California University of PA and Norwin High School students

in a bioblitz and cleanup of Indian Lake Park! A bioblitz is a catalog of all the plants, animals and fungi of an area. Cal U students and staff will lead groups around the park to collect and identify samples of various Pennsylvania species and to clean up litter around the park. Community involvement is highly encouraged, and volunteers will:

·        Learn about the biology of Indian Lake Park

·        Get hands-on experience in field biology and chemistry

·        Help clean up the community and preserve the park’s wildlife

·        Learn to identify the birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, trees, and fungi of your area

·        Learn about water quality maintenance through equipment demonstrations

Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Please dress appropriately with boots, gloves, and long pants.  Feel free to bring water bottles, binoculars, field guides, and cameras.   If you have smart phones we will be using iNaturalist and creek watch aps to help record data.  Signup starts at 9:00am sharp at the Indian Lake overlook deck!
