Presents Dr. Michael Allen

The California University of Pennsylvania’s (CalU) Meteorology Club will be hosting its first speaker of the spring semester, Dr. Michael Allen, as part of its spring Colloquia Series lineup.

 

 Dr. Michael Allen will be speaking on Friday, February 20th at 4:00pm in the Eberly Building of Science and Technology, room 120. 

 

A graduate of CAL U Meteorology, Dr. Michael Allen is an Assistant Professor of Geography at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.  After leaving CAL in 2008, Dr. Allen earned his Masters of Arts (2010) and Ph.D. in Geography (2014) from Kent State University.  During his time at CAL, he served as the President of the SWPA-AMS and was part of the first Storm Fest event at the Carnegie Science Center.  His research focuses on the impact of weather and climate on human wellbeing. Being part of several interdisciplinary projects, he has traveled throughout the world to places such as China, Moldova, and New Zealand.  More recently, Dr. Allen has investigated the 2014 Northern Hemisphere circumpolar vortex and re-evaluated the definition of seasons using synoptic climatology and surface temperature observations. 

 

In Climate Research Beyond the Halls of Eberly, Dr. Allen will provide an alumnus perspective on climate research.  He will draw on his experiences to illustrate the possibilities available to students in the field of climatology and climate change.  Additionally, Dr. Allen will provide students with some advice for improving their marketability in the world after CAL.
