"To really know a person, you must first walk a mile in their shoes."
This old saying is something that the men of Cal U take to heart as they
participate in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event sponsored by the
P.E.A.C.E. Project of Cal U.
"Walk a Mile" began in 2001 and has grown into a national movement that
is especially popular on college campuses. The men of the community put
on a pair of high-heeled shoes and literally take a walk. It's a fun,
light-hearted event that gets the word out about the prevalence of
sexual violence and lets the community know that men stand beside women
in the fight to end it.
"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" at Cal U will be held at 11 a.m. April 15.
Men in high heels will march from the Natali Student Union to the campus
gates and back.
Everybody is welcome to attend and cheer on the men who are brave enough
to walk in someone else's shoes.
The P.E.A.C.E. (Prevention, Education, Advocacy for Change and
Empowerment) Project raises awareness of sexual violence, intimate
partner violence and stalking. It offers professional staff members and
trained student workers to provide information, support, and/or
referrals. The office in Carter Hall, Room G45, is staffed from 8 a.m.
to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; appointments can be made to accommodate
schedules. All P.E.A.C.E. Project services are free and confidential.
