

Cross Country and Track Programs Host ‘Road to the Top’ Aug. 5-6

Running legends Dr. Joe Vigil, Joe Newton and Roger Kingdom
will be featured speakers at "The Road to the Top," hosted by the Cal U cross country
and track and field programs. Focusing on motivation and training, "The Road to the Top" begins
with a session for athletes at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 5 in Steele Hall Mainstage
Theatre. A coaches' clinic will begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 in Keystone
Hall, Room 205. Vigil, a U.S. Olympic distance coach since 1988, has coached
Olympic medalists and over 100 national champions. One of the founders of the USATF coaching education program, Vigil has
received 11 Hall of Fame and 14 National Coach of the Year awards. Newton, head cross-country coach at York High School in
York, Pa., has led his team to 26 state titles and 20 national titles. The
movie "The Long Green Line" is based on his 2005 boys cross country team. Kingdom, director of the Cal U track and field and cross
country programs, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. Cost is $30 for the athletes' session on Aug. 5, $50 for the
