Cal U's Office of Alumni Relations is gearing up for a Terrific Thursday on Nov. 11.

Vulcans play at Consol Energy Center

Cal U's partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins will bring the Vulcan hockey teams to the new, state-of-the-art CONSOL Energy Center.

A pre-game reception for alumni and University friends will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Cal U Conference Center, located inside the new arena. Pens players Tyler Kennedy and Deryk Engelland will sign autographs from 5:30-7 p.m.

Fans can cheer for the Vulcans as the women's team faces Penn State at 6 p.m., and the men skate against Robert Morris at 8 p.m. Cal U student Brian Joseph, a Purple Heart recipient who served in Iraq, will drop the puck for the men's game.

The event also includes a Veterans Day ceremony honoring Spc. Patrick McIlvain, of Uniontown, a former Cal U hockey team member who was wounded in Afghanistan; and a tribute to the late John Barbero, a California University alumnus who was the Penguins’ public-address announcer for more than 35 years.

Ticket price is $8 for general admission seating. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or on game night at the CONSOL Energy Center box office. Cal U students are admitted free with a valid CalCard.

Buses will take fans from Cal U to the CONSOL Energy Center, and will be departing campus at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Students may register at the information desk inside the Natali Student Center.

A staff bus will be departing at 4:15 p.m. from the parking lot behind the Natali Student Center (LOT 17). Contact SAI at 724-938-4303 or email Nikki Arthur to reserve a seat.

Alumni meet in California, Colorado

Alumni also will gather for special events in California and Colorado on Terrific Thursday.

Dr. Judith Evans Meyer '65 will welcome alumni from the Santa Barbara area to her home in Carpenteria, Calif., from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Guests will mingle, enjoy red and white wines, and hear an update about their university's remarkable progress from Cal U President Angelo Armenti, Jr.

Fado's Irish Pub in Denver, Colo., will be the gathering spot for alumni who will enjoy complimentary appetizers, a cash bar and door prizes, along with updates about their alma mater. The event runs from 6-8 p.m.

To RSVP for the CONSOL EnergyCenter reception for alumni and friends, or for more information about any of the Nov. 11 Terrific Thursday events, contact Montean Dean in the Alumni Relations Office at 724-938-4418 or dean@calu.edu.
