Cal U's Office of Alumni Relations is gearing up for a Terrific Thursday on
Nov. 11. Vulcans play at Consol Energy Center Cal U's partnership with the
Pittsburgh Penguins will bring the Vulcan hockey teams to the new,
state-of-the-art CONSOL Energy Center. A pre-game reception for alumni
and University friends will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Cal U Conference
Center, located inside the new arena. Pens players Tyler Kennedy and
Deryk Engelland will sign autographs from 5:30-7 p.m.
Fans can cheer for the
Vulcans as the women's team faces Penn State at 6 p.m., and the men skate against
Robert Morris at 8 p.m. Cal U student Brian Joseph, a Purple Heart recipient who served in Iraq, will drop the puck for the men's game. The event also includes a Veterans Day ceremony honoring Spc. Patrick
McIlvain, of Uniontown, a former Cal U hockey team member who was
wounded in Afghanistan; and a tribute to
the late John Barbero, a California University alumnus who was the
Penguins’
public-address announcer for more than 35 years.
Ticket price is $8 for
general admission seating. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or on game
night at the CONSOL Energy Center box office. Cal U students are admitted free with a valid CalCard. Buses will take fans from Cal U
to the CONSOL Energy Center, and will be departing campus at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Students may register at the information desk
inside the Natali Student Center.
A staff bus will be departing at 4:15 p.m. from the parking lot behind the Natali Student Center (LOT 17). Contact SAI at 724-938-4303 or email Nikki Arthur to reserve a seat. Alumni meet in California, Colorado Alumni also will gather for
special events in California and Colorado on Terrific Thursday. Dr. Judith Evans Meyer '65 will
welcome alumni from the Santa Barbara area to her home in Carpenteria, Calif., from
5:30-7:30 p.m. Guests will mingle, enjoy red and white wines, and hear an
update about their university's remarkable progress from Cal U President Angelo
Armenti, Jr. Fado's Irish Pub in Denver, Colo.,
will be the gathering spot for alumni who will enjoy complimentary appetizers, a
cash bar and door prizes, along with updates about their alma mater. The event
