TODAY: CHEMIST SPEAKS AT ACS ‘ON THE ROAD’
Posted on April 19, 2011
Dr. Jonathan Boyd, a professor in the C. Eugene Bennett Department of Chemistry at West Virginia University, will discuss a new study that predicts the results of mixing chemical compounds at an “On The Road” meeting of the ACS, the American Chemical Society. Boyd’s talk begins at 7:30 p.m. April 27 in room 110 of the Eberly Science and Technology Center. In his presentation “Forecasting the Toxicity of Chemical Mixtures,” Boyd will share a study from the Boyd Laboratory at West Virginia University that demonstrates the potential of a new in vitro approach for the prediction of toxic mixture interactions that is fundamentally driven by the interdependence of energy metabolism, signal transduction and cell survival. ACS members regional meetings, a buffet dinner and an undergraduate research poster session will be held before Boyd’s presentation. All events are sponsored by the Cal U Chemistry and Physics Department. Boyd’s talk and the poster session are free and open to the public. The buffet dinner costs $10; reservations are required. Visitor parking is available in the Vulcan Garage, off Third Street near the campus entrance. 5:30 p.m. ACS Members Regional Meetings 6 p.m. Dinner 6:45 p.m. Undergraduate Research Poster Session 7:30 p.m. Speaker’s Presentation For dinner reservations, call DeAnne Pavelko at 724-938-4147 or email pavelko@calu.edu by 5 p.m. April 20.
