GOLF TEAM FINISHES 7TH AT NCAA TOURNAMENT

UPDATE (May 14)

The women's golf team finished in seventh place at the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

The Vulcans ended their season with a team score of 1,248, the highest national finish in the program's history.

Junior Dianne Luke shot a par 72 in the final round, ending the tournament in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

Cal U's next-best individual player was sophomore Maria Lopez, who tied for 36th place.

The national winner was Nova Southeastern (Fla.) University, which won its third consecutive team title.


UPDATE (May 13)

The women's golf team moved into a tie for seventh place during the third round of competition at the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich. Both the Vulcans and the team from Western New Mexico University have 932 team points.

Junior Dianne Luke shot a 2-under-par 75 in the third round; she is in 16th place heading into tomorrow's final round. Cal U's next best individual player is sophomore Maria Lopez, in 36th place.


UPDATE (May 12)

The women's golf team moved into 10th place, with a team score of 632, after the second day of competition at the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Individually, sophomore Maria Lopez led Cal U in the second round with a 3-over 75, moving to 43rd overall. Junior Dianne Luke scored a 77 for the second consecutive day to move into 23rd place.


UPDATE (May 11)

The women's golf team is in 11th place, with a team score of 321, after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Individually, junior Dianne Luke and sophomore Kim Thomas led Cal, each with a score of 77. They are tied for 24th heading into the final two rounds.


UPDATE (May 3)

The women's golf team heads to national competition after finishing in second place at the three-day NCAA Super Regional One Championships, held May 1-3 at Cedarbrook golf course in Belle Vernon, Pa.

The Vulcans will join regional team champion Grand Valley State (Mich.) and Ashland University (Ohio) at the NCAA National Championship May 11-14 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Individually, junior Dianne Luke and senior Jenna Rothermel led for Cal, finishing second and 12th, respectively.

This marks the second consecutive season and the second time in shcool history that the team has advanced to Nationals. Last year, the Vulcans tied for eighth place in the national competition.


UPDATE (May 2):

Junior Dianne Luke shot one-over 73 with four birdies and took over the individual lead as the Vulcan moved into second place after two rounds of the NCAA Division II Super Regional Championship.

Heading into the May 3 final round, Cal U stands at 68-over 644 after 36 holes.

Top-seeded Grand Valley State (Mich.) remains in the lead with 61-over 637 after two rounds.

Individually, Luke owns a three-stroke lead over Grand Valley's Allie Tyler and Ashley Beard and Ashland (Ohio) University's Erinn Misheff. 


The women’s golf team will host the nine-team NCAA Division II Super Regional One Championship May 1-3 at Cedarbrook golf course in Belle Vernon, Pa.

The top three teams and the top three golfers not with a team will advance to the 2011 NCAA II National Championships from May 11-14 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.

Participants from four Super Regionals will face off in the championship.

Under the guidance of sixth-year head coach MerriLyn Gibbs, the Cal U team is ranked 18th nationally.

Last spring the Vulcans finished third at the NCAA II Super Regional One and finished in a tie for eighth in their first-ever appearance at the national tourney.
