

WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM ENDS SEASON

The women's tennis team ended its season today with a competitive 5-3 loss to Clayton State (Ga.) in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals at Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Vulcans, five-time PSAC and NCAA Atlantic Region champions, finish with a 22-8 overall record. The team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament four times in the last five seasons. Cal U’s women’s tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of
the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championships with a 5-1 victory over Drury
(Mo.) University at Salandro Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Vulcans improve to 22-7 overall and have won 11 straight
matches. Cal U will play Clayton State (Ga.) in the national
quarterfinals beginning at 3 p.m. May 12. This marks the fourth time in five years that Cal U’s
women’s tennis team has reached the quarterfinals. Inclement weather at Salandro Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla., has kept the Cal U women's tennis team off the court in the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Nationals. Only two of the eight matches planned for today have been played. Cal U is waiting to play the team from Drury (Mo.) University. Cal U’s 11th-ranked women’s tennis team defeated 47th-ranked
Meryhurst 6-0 on May 3 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament
at Club Sport and Health to claim the Atlantic Region No. 1 Championship. The victory improves Cal’s overall record to 21-7 and advances the
Vulcans to the Round of 16 as the now five-time champions of the Atlantic
Region No. 1 Tournament. Cal’s next action will be against Drury (Mo.) on Wednesday, May 11, in
Altamonte Springs, Fla. Cal U's 13th-ranked women's tennis team chalked up a 6-0 victory over West Liberty University in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament May 2 at the Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pa. With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 20-7 overall. The team will face Mercyhurst at 10 a.m. May 3.
For the seventh consecutive year, the women’s tennis team has qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships. Cal U will host the first two rounds of the tournament at Roadman Park May 2-3.
In Round 1, Cal U will face eighth-seeded West Liberty at 10 a.m. May 2, and Mercyhurst will face Charleston (W.Va.) at 1 p.m. Winners will compete in the second-round match scheduled for 10 a.m. May 3. The second-round winner will advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA II National Championships May 11-14 in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Five-time PSAC champions, the Cal U tennis team is ranked 13th nationally and owns a 19-7 overall record. The Vulcans have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament three times in the last four seasons under ninth-year head coach Pablo Montana.UPDATES (May 12)
