Portrait of President Angelo Armenti, Jr.To all Cal U students:

This is an exciting time at Cal U. Right now current students and a record number of University applicants are using our new Vulcan Information Portal, called VIP, to register for fall semester classes.

Be assured that you remain our top priority, even as the University grows. If you have not yet registered for fall classes, please register right away.

The Vulcan Information Portal is one key component of the new Banner information system that replaces SIS campus-wide. As we transition to using VIP, some difficulties are bound to occur.

We apologize to any students who may have encountered problems with the new registration process. Those challenges are being addressed. Our goal, as always, is to make your Cal U experience the best it can be.

Below you will find step-by-step instructions for using VIP to register for classes. You’ll also see phone numbers that you can call if you need a hand.

Please don’t wait to register. I look forward to seeing you on campus next semester.

With best wishes,

President Angelo Armenti, Jr. Signature.

Registration Process and Guidelines – Fall 2011

  • Log onto VIP (Vulcan Information Portal) by clicking the VIP link on the Cal U homepage, www.calu.edu. Look for the VIP logo on the lefthand side of the homepage.
  • Your Username is the first part of your e-mail address (without @calu.edu). Your password is your usual password — the one that you usually log on with.
NOTE: If you have not obtained your e-mail address, go to the homepage, click on Quick Links and select Get Campus Username and Password.
  • The first page of the VIP is the Cal U tab. This contains general information for the University population.
  • Click on the Academic Info tab to register and view information personalized to you.
  • Check your registration status by clicking on Registration Status, located in the Registration Tools channel. Your status will show such information as your class level, your academic standing, and if any holds have been placed on your registration.
NOTE: If a hold is present, you will need to contact the office that placed the hold on your registration to make arrangements to clear it.  You may obtain more information regarding your hold by clicking on the View Holds Link located at the bottom of the page.
  • Under the Registration Tools channel, click on Look up Classes to see the available courses with meeting times, location, prerequisites and instructor. Note the CRN(s) of the class(es) you would like to register for.
  • Return to the Academic Info tab to register for the courses you have chosen.  (Link is in the top lefthand corner.)
  • Click on Add or Drop Classes.
  • Enter the CRN of the course(s) you would like to register for and click Submit Changes.
NOTE: Certain courses have been identified by the department as requiring a pre-requisite.  If you have not met the necessary pre-requisite, you will not be allowed to register for the class without permission of the department.

Trouble-shooting:

  • If you receive a time ticket error, please contact Academic Records (for undergraduate) students or the Graduate School (for graduate students).
  • Make sure you are accessing VIP and not SISWeb.
  • If a class is closed and you feel you need it to graduate on time, please contact the Office of Student Success in Noss Hall, Room 103, or call
724- 938-1523.
  • If a course requires a pre-requisite that you feel you have met, contact the academic department for the class.
