The Vulcan football team was eliminated from the NCAA Division II playoffs after losing 35-28 at Winston-Salem State (N.C.) in a second-round game on Nov. 26.

The 17th-ranked Vulcans finish the season with a 10-3 overall record after tying for a seventh straight PSAC-West title during the regular season.

This was the team’s fifth consecutive playoff appearance.


UPDATE: Nov. 19, 2011

After rolling to a 30-0 halftime lead, the Vulcan football team and defeated Elizabeth City State University, 44-0, in a NCAA Division II first-round game Nov. 19 at Adamson Stadium.

Quarterback Peter Lalich passed for 357 yards and three touchdowns to Thomas Mayo, while Mario Washington added 165 receiving yards. The Vulcan defense limited the visiting Vikings to just 197 total yards.

With this win the Vulcans improve to 10-2 overall; the team has won five straight games.

Next, Cal U will travel to Winston-Salem (N.C.) State University for a second-round game at noon on Nov. 26.

Cal U is making its fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA football playoffs.


For the fifth consecutive season, Cal U’s football team will compete in the NCAA Division II playoffs. 

The Vulcans (9-2) are the fifth seed in the Super Region One. They will host the Elizabeth City State (N.C.) University Vikings (8-3) at noon Nov. 19.

The ECSU Vikings compete in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and are making the program’s third post-season appearance.

Under the direction of 10th-year head coach John Luckhardt (87-32), Cal enters the playoffs with a four-game win streak. The team went 6-1 in the PSAC-West to claim a share of its seventh straight division title.

Cal U made three consecutive national semifinal appearances from 2007-2009 before being upset in the opening round last fall. Since 2007, the Vulcans have compiled a 55-11 cumulative record and 32-2 PSAC-West mark.

The winner of the Cal-ECSU contest will travel to CIAA Champion Winston-Salem State University for a Super Region One semifinal game on Nov. 26.
