To open its 2012 season, the Cal U Recital Series welcomes soprano Diba Alvi for a performance at 8 p.m. Feb. 2 in Old Main Chapel.

Alvi is quickly gaining recognition for her beautiful voice and dynamic stage presence. She has received critical acclaim for both her operatic roles and her concert performances.

Winner of the 2006 Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition and a Tuesday Musical Club Individual Artist Award, Alvi recently completed her doctoral studies at the University of Maryland, where she was the recipient of the Robert McCoy Graduate Assistantship Award.

She is currently a faculty member at the University of Maryland and at Montgomery College in Rockville, Md. This summer she will portray the First Lady when the Opera Theater of Pittsburgh presents Mozart's The Magic Flute.

The Recital Series performance is free and open to the public. Donations to support the series are welcome.
