CAL U OFFERS SUMMER FUN WEEK AT SOUTHPOINTE
Posted on May 9, 2012
June 11 is the deadline to register for a Summer Fun Week
for children ages 8-12 at California University’s Southpointe Center. Sessions will be held from 1-4 p.m. daily, June 18-22. Each
day features a different theme. On Monday, Kitchen Chemistry Day, children will conduct safe
but crafty experiments with “rubber” eggs, “magic” candles and some things that
go “boom.” Tuesday is Eco-Art Day, when children create artwork with
gently used or recycled products. Wednesday’s Crafty Day will be a special session challenging
youngsters’ creative abilities, with secret details to be unveiled that day. On Thursday, Hobby Day, several collectors and hobbyists will
visit Southpointe to showcase their collections and explain how collecting
coins, comics and toys can become an enjoyable hobby. Friday’s session will be a Happy Birthday Party. Each
participant will create a personalized birthday card, and children will work in
teams on specific party planning areas, such as decorating, making favors,
creating games and making refreshments. The session will conclude with cupcakes
and prizes. Each Fun Week session begins and ends in the second floor
lounge area of the Cal U Southpointe Center. Classes meet in various classrooms
and lab spaces. Cost for the program is $10 per daily session, or $40 for
all five days. Space is limited, and registration is required by June 11. Checks can be made payable to “The Foundation for California
