THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE FROM ACTING PRESIDENT GERALDINE JONES
Posted on August 10, 2012
From: Acting
President Geraldine M. Jones Beginning next week, Cal U’s
website will have a new look. In keeping with our focus on
academic programs and student-centered initiatives, the homepage will feature
images of students and faculty engaging in hands-on educational activities and
enjoying campus life. The homepage is Cal U’s “front
door,” the first stop for many prospective students who are considering our
University. At www.calu.edu, those students
and their families will soon see compelling photographs that illustrate what
living and learning at Cal U is all about. Like our campus, those images will
be dynamic. Visitors can choose a photo, see a caption or click on links to
find more information quickly and easily. The images will be refreshed
regularly, so we can showcase a variety of programs each semester. Other useful homepage elements
will retain their familiar look. Navigation and “quick links” continue to provide
easy access to the online features that students and faculty use most,
including the Vulcan Information Portal. On the lower portion of the
homepage, the news carousel still
highlights up-to-the-minute details about campus news and events. New arrows will
remind visitors to check the interactive calendar carousel for upcoming activities,
or the campus carousel for road closures,
parking information and directions. Members of our own talented staff
accomplished the homepage redesign at virtually no cost. However, it will take
an investment by the entire campus community to keep our website functioning
effectively. Our online visitors should find
up-to-date information for every department and program, and a current
biography for every faculty member. To accomplish this goal, the Web team
provides training for faculty and staff who are responsible for Web updates in
their area. The Public Relations team can help to refresh a faculty bio or link
to an online CV. Compelling photos are the heart of
the redesigned homepage, and we need your help here, as well. If you are
planning a hands-on learning activity or an exceptional student experience,
please contact the Office of Marketing and University Relations well in
advance. And if you see our campus photographer — smile! Over time, we hope to illustrate
the full range of opportunities available to our current and prospective Cal U
students, alumni and friends. I invite you to watch for the
debut of our redesigned homepage. Please return often to see what’s new at www.calu.edu. View
