Posted on August 2, 2012
As part of her internship, O’Connor transcribed the diary of
Theresa O’Brien, an army officer’s wife from New Castle, Pa., who witnessed the
Battle of Antietam during the Civil War. O’Connor also penned an article about Theresa O’Brien that appears
in the summer 2012 edition of Western
Pennsylvania History, a quarterly magazine published by the History
Center. “My experience (as an intern at the History Center) was both enjoyable
and educational, because I got a real idea of what a working archives is like,”
says O’Connor, who earned a bachelor’s degree in
history at Cal U. “I loved working with the O'Brien diary, and I hope to
continue utilizing it in the future.” O’Connor’s article appears here with the permission of the Heinz History
Center:
Miriah O’Connor ’12 worked as a Summer 2012 intern in the Thomas &
