Lace up your skates! The Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place will be open through Feb. 17.

California University of Pennsylvania is proud to welcome skaters of all ages to Pittsburgh’s iconic outdoor ice-skating venue, a spectacular, one-of-a-kind ice rink in the heart of the Steel City.

More than a quarter of a million people are expected to visit PPG Place while the Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place is in operation, and about 60,000 skaters will glide across ice emblazoned with California University’s name, logo and website address.

The Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place is open seven days a week. Admission is $8 for adults, $7 for children and seniors. Skates are available to rent for $3.

“During the holiday season and beyond, there is no more popular stop in Pittsburgh than the ice rink at PPG Place,” says Craig Butzine, vice president for Marketing and University Relations at Cal U.

“Cal U is proud to be associated with this wonderful Pittsburgh tradition. We look forward to holding some special ice-skating sessions for students, staff and alumni. And of course we’re thrilled to welcome Pittsburghers and out-of-town visitors to the Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place.”

About the Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place

  • The ice rink at PPG Place has been open each holiday season since December 2001. It was a gift to the city from Pittsburgh philanthropists Elsie and Henry Hillman.
  • The rink’s ice surface measures 104’ X 104’ — larger than New York City’s ice rink at Rockefeller Center. 
  • More than 250,000 people annually visit PPG Place while the rink is in operation, and some 60,000 skaters take a spin on the ice each year.
  • The Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place is located at the intersection of Third Avenue and Market Street, in downtown Pittsburgh. Parking is available in the PPG Place parking garage below the rink, and at City of Pittsburgh facilities nearby. Cost is just $5 on weekends and after 4 p.m. weekdays. Street parking may also be available.
  • The Cal U Ice Rink at PPG Place is available to the public for birthday parties, skating lessons, corporate events, holiday parties, private rentals and group outings. Check rates for groups and special events
