FRESHMAN JUST MISSES NAT'L FINALS; RELAY TEAM FINISHES 13TH

Freshman track and field runner Summer Hill finished  in 10th place in the 1-mile preliminaries  at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships. She missed qualifying for the finals by 0.1 seconds.

Cal U’s distance medley relay team consisting of Alex Zanella, Danae Burgwin, Julie Friend and Hill finished 13th in the finals.


The women’s distance medley relay team will represent Cal U’s track and field program at the 2014 NCAA Division II Track and Field Indoor Championships March 14-15 at Winston-Salem University in North Carolina.

Team members are juniors Alex Zanella and Danae Burgwin, and freshmen Julie Friend and Summer Hill.

Earlier this month the team won the PSAC Indoor Championships with a time of 12 minutes, 0.87 seconds — 17 seconds faster than their nearest competitors.

Hill will also be competing individually in the 1-mile  run.

A total of 540 participants, 270 men and 270 women, will compete at the indoor championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

 Freshman Summer Hill receives the PSAC 2014 Outstanding Track Athlete Award. Hill is part of a Cal U distance relay team that will participate in the 2014 NCAA Division II Track and Field Indoor Championships.
