Original story:

Freshman Carla Maestre will compete in the NCAA Division II Women’s Golf National Championships from May 14-17 at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Conover, N.C.

She qualified for the championships as an individual after tying for sixth at the NCAA East Super Region Championships held earlier this month in Noblesvile, Ind.

Cal U was striving for a fifth consecutive team appearance at the national competition, but the Vulcans finished fifth at the regional contest.

The top three teams and the top three golfers not with a team from each of the four super region championships advanced to the NCAA National Championships.

Maestre is Cal U’s first individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships since 2009.
