WOMEN'S TENNIS ENDS SEASON IN ARIZONA

The women's tennis team lost, 5-1, to Midwestern (Texas) State in the third round of the NCAA Division II Championships in Surprise, Ariz.

Cal U's second-seeded doubles pair of Ramona Czakon and Mariela Sarinana recorded the team's lone victory.

The Vulcans finish the season with a 15-4 record.

UPDATE: May 3, 2015

The women’s tennis team defeated West Virginia State 5-0 on May 3 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament at Roadman Park.

With the win, the 12th-ranked Vulcans improve to 15-3 overall.  

Cal U now advances to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Championships May 13-16 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.


The women’s tennis team earned the Atlantic Region’s top seed and will host preliminary-round matches of the NCAA Division II Tournament May 2-3 at Roadman Park, weather permitting.

West Virginia State and Charleston will meet in a first-round match at Roadman Park at noon on May 2.

The 12th ranked Vulcans (14-3) will face the winner of that first-round match at noon May 3. 

In case of inclement weather, the matches could be moved to the Glen Creek Tennis Club in South Park Township.

The winner of the preliminary-round tournament will advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Division II Championships May 13-16 at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.

Cal U earned the automatic qualifier after winning an unprecedented ninth straight PSAC championship with 5-0 conference tournament victories April 24-25 over Bloomsburg and IUP. 

The Vulcans are making their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. They have advanced to the national quarterfinals in each of the past six seasons.
